Certification Process

Follow these 5 easy steps to AMT certification - look for details on each step under the specific certification specialty tabs:

1. Apply to AMT

After you have completed a qualified training program or gain the required experience (if applicable), submit your application and fee to AMT. Applications can be download directly from the AMT website.

2. AMT Processes Your Application

Once AMT receives your completed application, you will receive a letter indicating how to schedule your exam. Exams can either be taken at your school (if available) or at one of many conveniently-located Pearson VUE testing centers. If taking the exam at a testing center, you have the flexibility of scheduling at your convenience - there is no need to wait for an exam date that may be a few months away.

3. Prepare for the Exam

A number of resources are available to help you prepare for an exam, including exam content outline, reference study materials and practice exams.

4. Take the Exam

Questions are multiple-choice, the number depending on the certification specialty. If taking a test via computer (either at the school or at a testing center), you will immediately know if you've passed.

5. Look for Your Certificate and Membership Card in the Mail!
