Definition of CE

AMTIE defines continuing education as educational activities (planned programs) related to an individual’s original field of certification that are above and beyond basic education and training. These programs must be planned educational activities of one hour or more, not just an informal activity from which one learns something.

  • Category I: All CE programs related to the registrant's certification and/or job responsibility. This includes college credit.
  • Category II: Professional and continuing education programs other than those applicable for Category I.

Credit Standards

All continuing education credits earned will be recorded in actual clock hours of attendance. College credit will be converted to clock hours as follows:
  • 1 semester hour – 15 clock hours of credit
  • 1 quarter hour – 10 clock hours of credit

A standard is assigned to each category of credit as determined by the AMT Board of Directors on recommendation of the AMT Education, Qualifications and Standards Committee for each allied health discipline AMT certifies. The standard is provided below for Category I credits. Please note that Category II credits are not applicable toward meeting formal requirements.
