AMT Approved as Phlebotomy Certification Organization in California

Park Ridge, IL – April 24, 2003 – On April 22, the California Department of Health Services informed American Medical Technologists (AMT) that it has been approved as a phlebotomy certifying organization qualified to offer the Phlebotomy Technician Certification examination to qualified California personnel pursuant to recently issued California state regulations.

Under the terms of this regulation, within three years all phlebotomists working in California, who wish to continue working as phlebotomy technicians, must hold a State of California certification.  To receive state approval they must, among other things, pass a nationally recognized certification examination from a phlebotomy certifying organization approved by the State of California.

AMT has been certifying Phlebotomy Technicians since 1992 and its phlebotomy technician certification examination is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). In adhering to the Commission’s rigorous accreditation standards, AMT demonstrates that its certification programs are recognized, meaningful indicators of occupational competence.

AMT will be holding a Phlebotomy Certification Examination on June 26, 2004 in Los Angeles, CA.  To find out more about this examination click here.
