California requires that all Phlebotomy Technicians or Phlebotomists who work in California MUST hold a California Phlebotomy License by January 1, 2007. Prior to passage of this legislation, all phlebotomists had to be certified by April 9, 2006. An important requirement remains: in order to qualify for the extension, completed applications must be received by Laboratory Field Services on or before July1, 2006. Applicants are encouraged to apply online using the instructions listed below. One of the requirements of licensure is that all phlebotomists must take and pass a phlebotomy certification examination from an approved certifying organization. AMT was approved as a certifying organization in April of 2003.
AMT offers our certification examination two ways: Computerized testing through a Prometric testing site or by paper and pencil examinations with a proctor.
Questions on computerized testing can be found in AMT's FAQ section on this website. Also, to find a testing site in California, click on the link below to see the list. Testing sites can be found on Pearson Vue's Website.
Paper and pencil testing is typically done at a career school, community college or other organized venue. Computerized testing can be completed at any time by filling out the application and returing it with all relevant paperwork. To hold a paper and pencil test at your location, email Geri by clicking on the email link below.
How do I go about taking the AMT phlebotomy?
