AMT Announces New Certification Continuation Program

AMT announces the Certification Continuation Program (CCP).  This program requires AMT members to document activities supporting continuation of AMT certification every three years.  This program will apply to newly certified members and reinstated members of AMT. Members certified prior to January 1, 2006, are not required to participate; however, AMT still strongly advocates continuing education and all members should keep current with the trends in their field.

Any new member certified on or after January 1, 2006, will be required to attest to continuous employment, obtaining continuing education every three years, or comply with other means of meeting the CCP criteria.  The CCP program is intended to promote, encourage, and reward practitioners who demonstrate continued efforts to carry the competencies needed at initial certification throughout their careers.

Proof of compliance is required every three (3) years.

 How the program works:

  • Depending on your certification, you will be required to obtain a certain number of points over the three-year period:

RMA/CMAS/RDA/AHI/COLT: 30 points
RPT: 20 points
MT/MLT/CLC/AML: 45 points

  • Points are earned for continuing education, AMTIE compliance, employer evaluation, formal education, professional education, authoring written works, presentations (instructional), and others.
  • Every three years, newly certified members will receive a “Compliance Evaluation Workshop & Attestation” that must be completed and signed.
  • A percentage of those worksheets returned will be audited.  Those who are chosen for the audit must produce documentation to support the certification continuation activities attested to.
  • Once proof is returned, the certified member will receive normal yearly renewal notices and will be considered “Compliant.”
  • Certified members who do not return the “Compliance Evaluation Worksheet and Attestation,” or those who are audited and do not provide supporting documentation, are considered “Non-Continuing” and are not considered by AMT to be certified. Their certification is de-activated.
  • There are no additional fees associated with the CCP program.
  • A yearly renewal fee is still required.

Reinstated Members and Non-Active members who have not been an active member for three or more years will be required to follow the same guidelines as newly certified members.

AMTIE will still run the same way it has in the past.  If you obtain the required number of CECs in a given year, you will receive a Certificate of Compliance and if you double the number of CECs in a given year, you will receive a Certificate of Excellence.  Report cards will still be mailed every March to those members who have submitted CE in the past year.  It should be noted that annual compliance with AMTIE requirements is by itself sufficient to support CCP compliance.

The CCP program does not change the AMTIE program.
