Q: How do I go about becoming certified by AMT?
A: First, review the requirements and qualifications for the certification you are seeking by going to the AMT home page and clicking on the appropriate certification title; then, click on "Certification requirements and qualifications". This will provide the information regarding a certification's requirements and qualifications to see if you would qualify to complete the application. A letter is mailed to the applicant approximately 6 to 8 weeks after receipt of the application, documents, and payment. This letter will outline any missing documents or provide the applicant with testing information. Once an individual passes a certification examination, a letter is sent notifying the individual that he/she is AMT certified.
Q: What is the time frame from when I send in my application till I know if I am eligible to sit the exam?
A: It takes approximately six to eight weeks to process an application. Applications missing important documents or applicants form outside North America take longer to process. A letter will be sent to the individual identifying what documents remain outstanding. It is important to send in ALL information that is required with your application.
Q: Can I take the test by paper-and-pencil at a school if I am not currently enrolled in a program at that school?
A: Since each school sets their own testing dates, you must contact the school you want to take the exam at and ask them if you may sit the exam with their students. However, the quickest way to get certified if you are in the workforce is by computerized testing.
Q: How do I request an application?
A: Applications can be downloaded from this website, or filled in and printed off this site. To receive an application by mail, either send an email or call AMT at 800-275-1268.
