American Medical Technologists Granted Renewal of Accreditation for Certification Examinations
PARK RIDGE, IL – January 15, 2003 – The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) has granted American Medical Technologists (AMT) a renewal of its accreditation for all six of its competency-based certification examinations: Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) and Certified Office Laboratory Technician (COLT). NCCA is the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The renewal is valid until November 30, 2007.
“AMT is very proud to continue to have its certification programs accredited by the Commission. In adhering to the Commission’s rigorous accreditation standards, AMT demonstrates that its certification programs are recognized, meaningful indicators of occupational competence,” states James R. Fidler, Ph.D., Director of Testing and Competency Assurance at AMT.
“The Commission’s approval is a further indication that AMT certification programs are developed and administered in accordance with methodologies recognized by both psychometric and credentialing communities. The NCCA imprimatur represents an independent assessment and validation of AMT’s certification programs, processes, and structures. Ongoing accreditation by the Commission reinforces the value of AMT certification to the healthcare community and public,” reports Dr. Fidler.
AMT was a charter member of NCCA and was originally granted accredited by NCCA in 1980. Since then, AMT has renewed its accreditation five consecutive times. NCCA standards cover such areas as: purpose, structure, representation, and resources of the certifying board; validity, reliability, and security of testing mechanisms; psychometric procedures employed in certification; fair and confidential treatment of candidates and certificants and policies and procedures for addressing member eligibility, discipline, and appeals.
